“Food is what matters to the people”. Food safety is definitely a big event related to people's livelihood and social stability. On October 20, 2013 “Macau New Food Safety Law” was put into effect. Under the premise of protecting the public’s health and safety, “Macau New Food Safety Law” stipulates that the use of food additives and food related products during production process must comply with food safety standards. The government will take preventive and control measures based on monitoring and assessment of food safety risk, and alert the public at the same time.
To effectively raise Macau food industry’s awareness of food safety law and international standards on food safety management systems, and to promote the industry's food safety level and compliance, on February 24, 2014, Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, Legal Affairs Bureau and Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) co-sponsored the food safety trends seminar.
In addition to the explanation of “Food Safety Law” and food producer's obligations by government representatives from the organizers, World Center for Certification & Quality Certification, a global authorized inspection and certification body, was invited to attend, and delivered a speech on food safety management system standard ISO 22000, HACCP and food safety inspection and testing services, describing how to promote food suppliers and manufacturers to ensure food safety management through testing and certification in detail.
The seminar has attracted more than 100 delegates from food production, wholesalers, retailers, food transportation and storage. Besides, it also attracted the attention of Macao Daily News, Journal Tai Chung Pou, Journal Va Kio, Television of Macau, Journal Cheng Pou, exmoo News, Hou Kong Daily, Macau Convention & Exhibition Economy Journal and other media.
Through this seminar, most participants had a clearer understanding of the “Food Safety Law” and related food safety management system standards; they will optimize Macau food safety system, and strengthen consumer confidence with the Government.
