The Food Safety System Certification 22000 scheme
FSSC 22000 is a robust, ISO based, internationally accepted certification scheme for auditing and certification of food safety management systems across the entire supply chain. FSSC 22000 uses the existing standards ISO 22000, ISO 22003 and technical specifications for sector PRPs, which were developed through ISO or the Publically Available Specification open consultation process with a large number of stakeholders. Existing ISO 22000 certified manufacturers can obtain full GFSI accepted FSSC 22000 certification by meeting the requirements of technical specifications for sector PRPs and the additional scheme requirements.
Animal Feed
Today, the Foundation for Food Safety Certification published the revised FSSC 22000 scheme documents version 3.1. The certification scope of FSSC 22000 is extended to cover animal feed with PAS 222 (Prerequisite Program for the Manufacture of Food and Feed for Animals). This extension of the scope is recognized by the accreditation bodies. The animal food, feed and ingredient industries play an important role in safeguarding the food supply chain for both humans and animals. PAS 222 is intended to assist organizations in those industries by setting out requirements that are specific to the manufacture and provision of animal food, feed and ingredients. PAS 222 was developed by a Steering Group consisting of leading global food companies.
FSSC 22000 for Food Packaging to ISO/TS22002-4
FSSC 22000 for Food Packaging Material Manufacturing is currently based on PAS 223. ISO/TS 22002-4 was published in 2013 and is based on PAS 223. At the moment FSSC 22000 is benchmarking these two standards in order to make the transition to ISO/TS 22002-4 and maintain its objective of being a fully ISO based food safety certification scheme.
