Introduction
Climate change is a large crisis to all mankind. In response to this threat, governments and industry have worked out a target to achieve reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) levels. The International Organization for Standardization released the latest greenhouse gas emissions standards of ISO14064: 2006 on March 1, 2006. As a practical tool, it enables the government and enterprises to measure and control the dissemination, reduce greenhouse gas activities and set up services in emissions trading. This neutral greenhouse gas standard does not only improve the reliability of measurement and reporting, but also to make the greenhouse gas emissions trading smooth. Organizations can hence manage their greenhouse gas assets and liabilities of the associated risks more effectively.
The "Copenhagen climate summit" on December 7, 2009 this is known as the largest United Nations environmental conference in the history of the world. They put forward recommendations for the next international framework on climate change. As a “World Factory”, the rise of the economic status of China and its carbon emissions have also attracted global attention. China targeted to reduce 40% - 45% the emissions per unit of GDP over the next decade, how would China make it? And what should corporations in China do?
Meanwhile, the green supply chain has been set up for the corporations. Wal-Mart has already required suppliers to measure and report their greenhouse gas emissions and posted different colors of the carbon labels. From 2012 onwards, the airlines have to pay for the carbon emissions of greenhouse gases for flying on the sky of the EU. Multinational companies have been taken actions to reduce their carbon emissions. Some of the corporations, including Dell, HP, Asus, and Foxconn, have committed to reduce carbon emissions and urged their suppliers to meet the greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets and provided related information.
Do you want to get more business and gain social acceptance? To achieve "energy saving" in a recent competitive market and to occupy the low-carbon energy market, Bureau Veritas Group invites you to enroll the training course to learn and share the calculation of corporate carbon emissions.
Third-party certification of greenhouse gas emissions can bring significant values to organizations. The adoption of the certification process could help you:
- Identify opportunities to save energy, improve energy efficiency
- Identify process improvement opportunities, by technologies to achieve emission reduction targets
- Better understand different departments, its functions and how to minimize harmful environmental impact interactively
- To enhance corporation image: the standard of ISO14064 starts to be commonly used. Many multinational corporations have adopted this standard to monitor their vendors in greenhouse gas emissions reductions by a third party certification assessment.
- To enhance the recognition of stakeholders (investors, partners, degree of acceptance)
- To provide reliable information for government and organizations: World Bank and the People's Bank of China have developed green credit for corporations. Those corporations which had reduced greenhouse gas emissions reductions, might gain the securities commissions refinancing approval.
- Greenhouse gas emission reduction certification could be marked in the company annual reports, which help to enhance corporate image and reflect strong corporate social responsibility.
